| During the afternoon, the Rolling Stones Licks stadium concert stage was a giant pop-art billboard. The Jeff Koons collage set an enigmatic yet provocative mood, the lush lips reaching for contradictory motifs of lace panties, chain-link fencing and a humourous inflatable dog. The billboard was brilliantly coloured and intensely printed, a huge display of vibrant colour that dominated even in the largest stadia. As the houselights went out, the billboard remained lit in white through the first number. At the end of the second song, the two roller blind panels inboard of the PA dropped down sufficiently for the video screens to track on stage. Then they closed up again, and for the next few numbers the screens performed in front of the billboard. Further in to the show, the billboard panels rolled down to reveal a highly textured backlit backdrop of gold, bronze and sliver gauze. Two thirds of the way through the show, the band moved out to a 'B' stage in the middle of the stadium. No heroic bridges this time, just a simple runway through the crowd. Whilst the band were away from the main stage, the gauze backdrop was stripped away, clearing the stage for a hard-hitting finale of backlight and pyrotechnics.
